Ideagen Plant Assessor and Downer

Downer Power Systems National Safety Manager, Leo Holmes, introduced Plant Assessor into that business unit in mid-2012, with his team subsequently facilitating a successful implementation.

At the same time, Downer General Manager of Plant in Western Australia, Larry Green, worked extensively with Downer National Zero Harm Committee on the need for a robust process for plant risk assessment for all divisions. 

The result of this work was a decision to go National with the Plant Assessor system in 2013, involving an extensive roll out process between May and September of that year.

In discussing their decision, Larry said that “Plant Assessor is the only solution that I have seen that considerably reduces the subjectivity of the plant risk assessment process”.

Since the rollout, Downer has conducted a huge number of comprehensive plant risk assessments using Plant Assessor, some of which have been undertaken by members of Plant Assessor’s professional inspection team.

Downer has also utilised Plant Assessor in the management and verification of contractor plant safety on its projects.

The process of inspecting their considerable plant fleet continues in earnest.
