Matthew Turner  |  Managing Director

It’s no secret that rural workplaces pose high risks for both employees and employers. Recent figures released by Safe Work Australia in their 21019 Work-related Traumatic Injury Fatalities, Australia report show that the agriculture, forestry and fishing industry, with 30 fatalities, was the second highest in terms of overall fatalities in 2019. (Transport, postal and warehousing accounted for the highest with 58 fatalities and construction was the third highest with 26).

PA TEAM NEWS

New year: New team members!

We’ve welcomed two new starters to the Plant Assessor team this month!

Jamie Krsul – Customer Support Representative

Jamie was born in Wollongong, lived in Cobargo and Newcastle. She graduated Bega High School top of her class in English and Mathematics, and scored in the top 5% of the state in HSC Mathematics.

After starting an education degree at La Trobe University in Bendigo, she decided teaching wasn’t for her, and moved back to Newcastle to study a Bachelor of Business at UoN; majoring  in Tourism, which she completed in 2017.

She worked at BMT Tax Depreciation for 18 months, travelling across Australia inspecting both residential and commercial investment properties. But her passion for tourism brought her back to the Hunter Valley, where she worked in two hotels.

Jamie also has experience working for Wespac both in their customer care team and collections team.

Now, Jamie lives in Cessnock with her partner, Nic, and two Jack Russels – Broccoli and Brussel. She’s obsessed with true crime and finance podcasts, as well as a huge Harry Potter fan. In her downtime, you’ll find her hanging out with friends and family, enjoying a glass of wine, and playing with her ‘furbabies’.

Sam Stephens – Product Owner

Sam grew up on the Central Coast, attended Berkeley Vale High School, but made the move to Newcastle to study a Bachelor of Computer Science at UoN.

He’s always worked in IT – from starting his own business building and selling computers in his uni days, to (what he calls ‘interesting’ – and we’ll take his word for it) areas of IT, including SCADA systems that remotely monitor agricultural systems, mobile data over radio and vehicle tracking via ground-based radio triangulation.

He was the General Manager of Systems Development for a hosting and data transit company, where he ran the development team, devops, product, web and special projects teams. He’s always had a passion for mobile apps and mobile technology, which makes him perfectly placed to take on the Product Owner position here at Plant Assessor.

When asked what else he’s been involved with, Sam talked about a lot of complicated-sounding tech, such as, ‘Internet of Things technology, including mobile positioning based on bluetooth beacons and short and long distance RFID.’ Seeing our glazed expressions, he summed it up by saying ‘I got to play with some really cool James Bond stuff.’

Sam’s married with two kids, and spends his down time cooking, playing XBox and – in his words – “trying to convince my son that bodyboarding is fun”.
