Release: Digital Handover for machinery sales

Written by Plant Assessor | July 2023

We've digitised and simplified the process of supplying a machine and all required documentation post-sale, empowering you to easily meet safety obligations when selling machines.

What has changed?

Once a Sale Risk Assessment has been completed against a machine, it can be transferred directly to the buyer's Plant Assessor account along with the machine's documentation. The ownership of the machine is instantly transferred to the new buyer and they can begin the ongoing management of it right away.

Why it matters?

Under state and federal safety legislation, suppliers of plant ‘must ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, that the plant is without risks to the health and safety of persons.’ Furthermore, they must also ‘give adequate information to each person to whom the supplier supplies the plant concerning’:

• The purpose for which the plant was designed or manufactured
• Conditions necessary for the safe use of the plant
• Alterations or modifications made to the plant.

These obligations can be satisfied by using Plant Assessor to conduct a thorough Sale Risk Assessment, and the subsequent risk management report can be provided to customers. The Digital Handover process ensures that this report and all documents uploaded against the machine are transferred digitally and efficiently to the buyer.

How does it work?

Conduct a Sale Risk Assessment next to the machine you are wanting to sell, and then click the 'Mark as Sold' once you are ready to transfer to the new owner. You will be prompted to enter the buyer's details, if the buyer already has a Plant Assessor account, the machine will automatically appear in their machine listing. If they do not have an account, they will be prompted to sign up for free where they will have access to the machine and all supplied documentation.

FAQ

Will I retain a record of the machine in my account after it's been sold?
Yes, by selecting 'Removed Machines' from the Fleet status filter, you will be able to see all machines sold or removed from your account. By clicking into the Machine profile, you will also have a record of when and who the machine was transferred.

What will it cost?
A Sale Risk Assessment has a one-off fee of $60 - $180 depending on the type of machine. There is no charge to transfer the machine to the buyer or to the user accepting a transfer.

Can I transfer machines to people who aren’t Plant Assessor users?
Yes! The new Digital Handover process will allow you to enter any email address. If the recipient is not a Plant Assessor user, they will receive an email inviting them to sign up for free. Their account will remain free until they choose to activate premium features.

Will the buyer get a notification of the transfer?
Yes! When a machine is transferred with a recent Sale assessment, the buyer will receive an email with a summary of the transfer details. You, as the seller will also receive an email confirmation of the sale.
