Go digital with machinery compliance

Written by Plant Assessor | April 2020

Catchy title isn’t it.  No – it’s not another “Our Response to COVID-19” message!  We are over them too.

As a matter of fact, we are well and truly over this poxy virus and everything it has brought with it, especially Zoom meetings, unless it’s the Friday drinks Zoom, that one is OK.

We have been helping people take their plant safety digital for a really long time now, and there are a whole bunch of reasons why it is a good idea.  Cyrus the Virus has just added another one – yes you can now get sick from handling paperwork.

We do still see a lot of paper floating around machines, workshops and jobsites.

Here are 3 simple digital strategies that will reduce cost, improve information flow, and also help manage the risks of coronavirus in your business.

1. Get rid of your pre-start books

There has never been a better time to do this. Why?

1. Books cost money, Pre-Start Plus from Plant Assessor is FREE
2. Know who did their pre-starts and when they did them
3. Immediately know the condition of the machine and whether it needs to be repaired before it is used
4. Non-generic, risk rated pre-starts
5. You’ll never have to collect another pre-start again
6. You’ll never lose another pre-start again
7. Eliminate the need to double or triple handle pieces of paper

2. Get all of your safety documentation into the cloud

There are many reasons for doing this, including:

1. Everyone has access to all relevant information all of the time
2. Information is easier to access as it is served up conveniently on phones, tablets and computers
3. Information can be easily shared with staff, contractors and customers
4. Eliminate the need for multiple paper copies of policies and procedures – save on paper

3. Take your service scheduling and record keeping digital

When you take pre-starts digital, capturing machine hours is easy. Plant Assessor includes scheduled service intervals for nearly 110,000 makes and models of machinery, this means:

1. Complete transparency of services complete, pending and overdue
2. The ability to capture unscheduled service and maintenance (eg. a repair identified by a pre-start or risk assessment)
3. This information being accessible to your staff and customers as required

These three simple and low cost steps can get you digital in a very short space of time.  The cost of the books alone will more than pay for this innovation and everything else you get for free.

You will also be able to upgrade machine by machine to Plant Assessor’s premium safety suite where you want to go the extra mile on your machinery safety, accessing safe operating procedures and our world-famous risk assessments.
