If I had a dollar for every time someone told me that their truck did not need a risk assessment because it just went over the pits, or that Australian Standards do not apply to trucks because they are built to ADRs (Australian Design Rules) I would be a wealthy fella!
Matthew Turner | Managing Director
In yet another completely avoidable machinery incident, a hydroponic tomato farm in Victoria has been convicted and fined $30,000 after a worker’s arm was crushed in unguarded machinery.
The incident, which occured in January 2019, involved a worker operating a powered leaf mat washer whose arm was caught in an unguarded winding mechanism. The accident caused serious crush injuries and nerve damage to the worker’s arm.
PA TEAM NEWS
The Plant Assessor crew is growing, with Ian joining the marketing team.
British born, but an Aussie at heart, Ian grew up in the naval city of Portsmouth on the south coast of England. He first came to Australia in 2014 to work for a year within the marketing and communications team for an international charity, where he met his wife, Kelly. They moved to the UK for five years, and recently returned to settle permanently in Australia, buying a house in Maryland.
He earned his honours degree in English at the University of Bradford, which kicked off a career in marketing, with a focus on copywriting and content. Ian has worked across a range of industries, including SaaS companies, not-for-profit organisations, and within the higher education sector.
Having recently moved back to Australia, Ian likes to spend his downtime exploring new places, camping and hiking. At weekends, you’ll find him playing guitar, cooking up a storm, and drinking a good Rioja. Ian and Kelly are expecting their first baby in April 2021, and are excited to start their next chapter.
