PLANT ASSESSOR ON TOUR

Conexpo 2020 | Las Vegas | USA
Stuck in self isolation, but Conexpo was worth it!

Matt Turner | Managing Director

Myself and our Founder, Paul Dean recently returned from a trip to San Francisco and Las Vegas – we learnt a great deal whilst in the home of the 49ers and the gambling capital of the world.

San Francisco was supposed to be the home of the SaaStr conference, which was postponed the day before we left.  Given we had a range of meetings already organised there, and Conexpo was still on, we decided to follow through with the trip.

Silicon Valley meetings were an eye opener, the Land of the Free is certainly a powerhouse of very smart individuals and companies who have a truly global view of the world. We walked away with a broader view of where we are going and a new perspective on the strategic direction of Plant Assessor. Oh, and Alcatraz was cool too…

IPWEA Conference 2020
16th – 18th March

For many years we have supported the IPWEA Fleet Managers group. We have toured the country with these fine people a number of times, and for the last few years have supported the annual IPWEA Fleet Conference.

On March 16 and 17, several of our team members attended this year’s IPWEA fleet conference. We were delighted to present at the conference on the subject of “Leading Practice Plant & Equipment Safety Management.”

BEN

Thanks to our MD Matt Turner being required to self isolate after returning from a trip to Conexpo in Las Vegas, Ben James (Client Relationship Executive) got a last minute call up to present this session. Ben did a fantastic job presenting this valuable subject matter – well done Ben, nothing like being thrown in the deep end! The presentation is available here for your information.

⚠️ Can we help you respond to COVID-19? ⚠️

At Plant Assessor we realised the need to be proactive in responding to the COVID-19 crisis. It took quite a lot of work so we thought we would share our policy and procedure documents with you below.

We were quick to put these together for the safety of our team members and clients – we wanted to understand and manage the risks of COVID-19 whilst still being there to support our clients’ operations…

Working from home eh?
We’ve all heard ‘Yeah I’m working from home’ before..

Until the last few weeks, you could be forgiven that this was code for “I’m going to be at home drinking beer and watching Netflix.”

Since moving to a largely home based work arrangement (yes at this time we are still visiting clients and performing essential on site services to help them ensure their machinery is safe for use), we have learnt that this working from home gig is far from a tinny and Netflix fest.

By the end of the first week, the general feeling was that we had all worked harder and been more connected than ever. It was exhausting. Between, email, slack, salesforce chatter, facebook messenger, whatsapp, texts and phone calls, we were all being overwhelmed with communication.

In addition to these usual communication channels, we implemented a system of daily check ins and check outs, using Zoom, as we wanted to make sure teams connected regularly. We ended up winding these back to a once a day check in as twice a day ended up being too much.

One method we have found very valuable is to all list your top 3 things you are working on for the day, and to report back on the achievement of these at the following day’s check in. A very helpful accountability measure.

One thing we were not going to give away were our one afternoon drinks at knock off time. This also happened to coincide with the birthday of our illustrious Client Relationship Executives, Aaron Gray.

We hosted Friday birthday drinks on Zoom, and whilst quite a few of the team were unable to be there, we got 20 people online to sing a terrible, badly timed version of happy birthday to the birthday boy.

The Plant Assessor team are tackling these strange times with a positive attitude, a smile on our face and always looking for the funny. We hope that you are OK too.
